Project Avielle Description
Project Avielle is a very interesting project that will be a great experience in the long run. Something that really struck me so far is having the talk with Ms. Nuvia and video chatting with Avielle’s dad Jeremy. The reason why that struck me is because once we began talking about Avielle and seeing pictures and describing how her life used to be and what she liked I felt like what we were doing was real. Also because its a good feeling knowing you're helping a family and doing something that will help not only a community but people who were affected by this tragedy.
High Tech High Chula Vista is a project based learning school and our 9th grade class is coming together to make a park design of remembrance called Project Avielle. Avielle was a first grader who was involved in the tragedy of the shooting in Sandy Hook Elementary. Our goal is to make sure a tragedy like this never happens again and to make a difference in our community. We are doing this project to help the Richman family and to keep Avielle’s spirit alive making this park a remembrance of her.
This whole project started by the ideas of our teachers and since the first day they told us about this project we took interest and began to think big. After we took interest we began to talk more and more about how we were going to make this work. Now we are taking action and little by little making accomplishments and getting things done in individual groupings to reach our overall goal of making our design of the park approved. Our upcoming plan is to have many meetings with a lot of people who will be a very big important part of our project and fund us to get where we want to with our park design. We also want to get approved so we can actually get our park constructed which is our overall goal. We have six groups of people working on different types of things, we have the projects managers, technical directors, marketing group, artistic directors, creative directors, and the project coordinators. All six groups are very important to the whole project because each has very important information they need to come up with in order for another group to get what they need to get done. Teamwork and communication is a very big part of our project.
In my opinion I think Project Avielle can impact people in many ways. First, it can inspire others to help out their community and those who are in need of help and to make a difference. It can also help schools be more aware and notice that situations like this can happen anywhere and we should all be prepared. There is many more reasons for this project to impact people but these are just some.
This project has impacted me in a couple of ways, the number one reason being that I know I am doing something good for not only the Richman family but also making sure everyone remembers Avielle and gets to know her through the way we present the park to people. I love doing good deeds and this just seems like a once and a lifetime experience that I will forever remember.

This is the notecard that I made. Every person in the class had to make one with a drawing representing Avielle. The reason why I drew a music note was because when Ms. Nuvia an 11 grdae teacher here at High Tech High Chula Vista came to talk to us about Avielle and filled us in on her life; she described her as a a very outgoing young girl who loved music and had a huge imagination. The reason Ms. Nuvia came to talk to us about Avielle is because she was a close family friend to the Richman family and Avielle considered her like an aunt. I chose to draw this specific music note because It made me feel like it was free unlike the other music notes. She loved music and espcially the artist Sonti Gold and the song Somebody That I Used To Know. We started this project at the end of the year and even though we dont finish it I am still prouf of the work we did as a team and the purpous why we did Project Avielle.
