POL MATH PORTFOLIO: SEMESTER ONE

Math this semester was great. I had many ups and downs but I enjoyed the class and all the neat projects we did. I felt like I learned many valuable things and even tho at the beginning I wasn't too sicked about math now I am. Not only do I feel like I am actually learning something but I enjoy having Mr. Mendricks as a teacher. I have liked mostly all the projects Mr. Mendricks has introduced to us and I am excited to see all the new ones he is planning for semester two.

Something I really liked about this semester in math is the type of help that is offered to all the students during lunch and after school. The reason why I liked it so much is because I don’t always need help with the homework or what we are learning during school but when I do I know I could go there to get help with anything. Also because I go with a few friends and I don’t feel lonely, so it is actually fun but to the point where I actually do get help.

On the other hand I struggled a lot with the x and y chart functions the most. As much as I tried to practice and get it I just couldn't. I would ask questions and go to tutoring but no matter what that specific lecture was a big weakness of mine. I know it took time and patience but as everyone knows I am not patient one bit. You had to redo the problems and try different numbers to plug in and not only did I struggle with that but I would get stressed out and just give up on the problem. I knew giving up wasn't going to help me understand the process of solving functions but since this was a HUGE struggle for me I didn't even want to learn how to solve it anymore.

A success for me was the project presentation of a real life linear inequality problem. It was a very great success for me because I was the one who did most of the work and even tho at times it was challenging for me I asked questions and made sure I knew what I was doing and that my presentation and power point met all requirements. I am not saying my group members didn't do anything because they did but I feel like I did most of it. I was also very nervous about not getting an A and speaking in front of my whole class because it was the first weeks of school but I did it and after it was over with I felt successful. I also got a 25/25 which is a A+ and that made me really happy. I doubted myself for sometime but then realized I could do anything if I put my mind to it and actually focus and put all my effort.

A goal I have for next semester is to stay positive and believe in myself. I want to make sure that I have confidence and know that I can do absolutely anything I want if I try my hardest and do my personal best. I also want to end the second semester with an A+. I am excited too see what is in store for me with a positive attitude. (:
